March 2010 Exam to Test 2010 Tax Law – Major Change from CFP Board |
|
Last night, CFP Board formally announced that the March 2010 CFP exam will test current year tax law. This represents a major departure from previous years, when the March exam tested previous year tax law. The good news is that there aren’t too many inflation adjusted changes from 2009 to 2010, so if you know 2009 law it will take less than 30 minutes to learn the changes for 2010. Here are the steps we’re taking to make sure you’re prepared:
CFP Board has posted new tax tables for the March 2010 exam, which can be found on this site: www.CFP.net. Please download these tables for reference, as these will appear in your exam booklet. My thoughts on this are: 1) No need to panic, the changes are minor and you’ll learn them with ease. 2) While the timing of the change is less than ideal, CFP Board makes the rules and we need to be flexible and accommodate this change. 3) We’ll get you the changes for 2010 in time for the Office Hours this Friday (1/29) and we’ll cover the changes in detail during the reviews in February. More information will be sent to you before Office Hours on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions. Regards, Joseph M. Gillice, CPA, CFP® President Dalton Education, LLC » Post Comment
